We
visited Paris many years ago in spring. But this time we wanted to see this
great city at Christmastime with all the fascinating lights. So we spent a
weekend there. Paris welcame us with sunny blue sky and very icy temperatures,
but this doesn´t matter, because we wore our thick downy coats.

We
stayed near the Arc de Triomphe, and so this was also our first sightseeing
stop. The view from up here is always great. Then we went along the Champs
Elissee , through the Jardin des Tuileries and du Carrousel down to the Louvre.
It was beautiful and by the way we could watch the very chic Parisian women.
Most of them wore mink-coats. Paris is famous for its elegance.
Of
course, we went also to the two big department stores
"Galeries
Lafayette" and
“Au Printemps", to see especially the fantastic decorated Christmas shop-
windows. But there were a lot of people and families in front of it and we saw
almost nothing. So we went up to the roof terrace of Au Printemps. From there,
we had a magnificent view over the city and up to the Basilica Sacre-Coer.
Our
walk along the Seine let us almost forget that it was now December. Only the
Christmas tree in front of Notre Dame and the ice skating place in front of the
City Hall remembered us on winter. Because, the street cafes were open, artists
and visitors were on the way, the sun shined bright, it was just beautiful and
it seemed like springtime.
About
small streets through the Marais quarter we strolled to the
“Center Georges
Pompidou". Alone this building itself is spectacular apart from its modern art
exibitions inside. Very impressive is the Fontaine Stravinsky at the near too,
now it was frozen and therefore much more abstract than usual.
But the
absolute highlight of our Paris weekend was the visit of the Eiffel Tower by
night. This gigantic steel construction shined and glittered in the dark and
it was very wonderful. We went down from the Trocadero and we saw always the
tower in front of us.
No matter what time
you will travel to Paris, you can be sure, that it will be at any time a very
good trip. We enjoyed our stay very much and we hope we can came again.
